Author's Note
there is a rather famous song by Georg Danzer, "der nackerte im hawelka" - the naked guy in hawelka . it rarely came closer than this.

the sketch to the song, by the songwriter himself is just visible in the middle of the composit, on the wall next to Martin.
Shooting Conditions
available light and quite different conditions. if i recall correctly  i had to shoot martin at 1/20 F 1.8 @ 800 iso or such while Sven, at a different time of day, was  quite manageable in good daylight (early saturday morning actually).

at a first glance the images may seem entirely unrelated. in their origin they are, but they still belong together.

tell me if you agree and why, if your opinion differs - even better, but please, elaborate :-)

To start, let me again note on the quality of light on the left photo in particular. Yes, you say its whatever is available, no problem, but that means you have a good eye for it and choose your subjects with care. How do these photos belong together? No idea, but somehow they do. Hmmm, do both of your subject spend great amount of time at Hawelka discussing radical political ideas?

actually no . Martin studies art history in London & Paris and comes to Vienna rarely these days. Sven used to be there very often, but you know what drugs do to people. Martin is a very bourgeois-bonvivant-boy while Sven a rebellious son of empoverished polish nobility.

they have never met in person, yet they know of each other.

and the light in haw is beautiful, if you can harness it.

Not really
But I haven't heard people refer to others as "rebellious son of empoverished polish nobility" in a long time.

oh well, believe me, there is some left.

the most charming referral i've heard in this department was made by  a friend of mine, referring to the very kind of people i am talking about :

"we are the nouveaux pauvres" ... i did find it amusing, particularly with the "new russians" in mind or the nouveaux riches, whatever.

sven is a grand-nephew of kafka, by the way.
